The ancient Bulgarian town of Balchik - founded in the 6th century BC. Located above sandy cliffs nearly 50 kilometers north of Varna makes Balchik one of the most picturesque towns of the Black Sea coast.

The primary attraction of this popular tourist center is the beautiful Botanical Garden with the small Palace or “Quiet Nest” commissioned by Queen Maria of Romania in 1924.

Inside a large park on a hill overlooking the sea, the palace is built in a combination of Oriental, Gothic and Bulgarian styles.

The huge park of some 35 hectares features gushing springs and beautiful gardens, which is known for its rich collection of cacti.
